NEXT MASS: 11am Mass Sunday - February 11, 2024

St Mary’s Parish ‘Junior Choir’

PRACTISES  FOR TERM 1 will start on Friday Feb 9 at 3.30pm in the Hibernian Hall/ Cafe Light. 150 Yarra St Geelong

The St Mary’s Junior Choir was formed in 2003 by Rebecca Hay (OMG it has been going for 20 years!!) and is made up of children of Primary/Secondary School age who are part of our Parish Community. A child does not need to be enrolled at a Catholic school, but can be a ''parishioner'' attending Sunday Mass in our Parish.

Invitation to sing in the Choir is open to boys and girls from Prep up to Yr 12.

2016 saw the format for the choir change - a split into 2 groups – Juniors and Seniors. The Seniors were called Lumiere (which means – ‘Shine’). Once you moved to Year 9 (and above) you were encouraged to become a part of the ‘Lumiere’ Choir and continue your singing journey... at this stage Lumiere will not be re-forming as a separate 'entity'.

Practices will be held the Pioneer Room (Level 1) at the Parish Centre, 150 Myers Street, Geelong.

The Junior Choir practices every Friday after school from 3.30 pm – 4.30 pm.

Please note that practices are held during the school term and there are no scheduled practices - or Masses to sing at - during the school holidays.

The Junior Choir sings at the 11.00 am Family Mass on the 4th Sunday of each month.

We also sing at other parish events, and the Christmas Eve 6.00 pm Children's/Family Mass.

The Choir was created to be a place where children can come to socialize and sing in praise of the Lord.

It is a safe and happy environment where the kids are encouraged to participate, do their best, have fun… and are taught to sing together - guided by Rebecca.

New members are always welcome, so if you are interested, call Rebecca at the Parish Office on 5222 1977 or email: rhay@stmarysgeelong.com.au ... or just turn up to a practice on a Friday, introduce your children, fill out the enrollment form & leave contact details... and join in.

Parents are welcome to drop off, or stay in the room during the time of practice.

If your child is unwell, especially if showing symptoms of cold/flu or Covid, please do not send them to Choir practice. Singing enables the germs to course further and quicker than just talking, and we aim to keep our group as healthy as possible in these times. We do not want to have to initiate wearing a mask at Choir Practice

NEXT 11am MASS is: Feb 25, 2024 at Sunday Mass
