St. Mary’s Parish ‘JUNIOR CHOIR’ + ‘LUMIERE’

The St. Mary’s Junior Choir was formed in 2003 by Rebecca Hay – and now has around 28 members, made up from children of Primary/Secondary School age who are part of our Parish Community.

Invitation to sing in the Choir is open to boys and girls from Prep – Grade 6 and also Secondary levels.

2016 saw the format for the choir change. It is now split into 2 groups – Juniors and Seniors. The Seniors are called Lumiere (which means – ‘Shine’) Once you move to Year 7 (and above) you are encouraged to become a part of the ‘Lumiere’ Choir and continue your singing journey.

The Junior Choir practices every Friday after school from 4pm – 4.45pm

Lumiere Choir practices every Friday 4.45pm – 5.30pm (following directly after the Junior Choir Practice)

Practices are held in the Cinema (at the rear of the Hibernian Café - Parish Centre -  150 Myers Street, Geelong ).

Practices are held during the school term and there are no scheduled practices - or Masses to sing at - during the school holidays.

The Junior Choir sings at the 11am Family Mass on the 4th Sunday of each month.

Lumiere sings at the 6pm Saturday night Mass on the 4th Saturday of each month.

We also sing at the St. Mary's Parish Fair Fete and the Christmas Eve 6pm Childrens Mass.

The Choir was created to be a place where children can come to socialize and sing in praise of the Lord.

It is a safe and happy environment where the kids are encouraged to participate, do their best, have fun…

and are taught to sing together - guided by Rebecca.

New members are always welcome, so if you are interested, call Rebecca on 0423 314 724.

Lumiere - Junior Choir Break-up.

Inspired by the song "Joy to the World - A Christmas Carol" sung by Nicholas Jonas, this year we thought we'd do something a little different. Rather than the regular KK gift to each other, members of Lumiere and the Junior Choir decided to collect present items (for boys and girls) to place in personally decorated present bags, to be distributed to those less fortunate.

Gifts were generously donated by all families involved with the Choir - and we were able to make up 32 different bags for boys and girls to enjoy at Christmas. The bags were personally decorated by the members of the Choir, dropped off to Christ Church Kitchen (cnr. of McKillop and Moorabool Streets) with the promise that they would be given the to the many children who come in with their parents

for lunch or dinner over the Christmas period.

The ladies at the kitchen were overwhelmed by the generosity of this group of children.

We all certainly felt the spirit of Christmas deeper in our hearts this year, knowing we brought a smile to many children's faces when they were presented with the gift bags.

Thank you Lumiere, the Junior Choir and parents for your overwhelming enthusiasm for this project.
